Automation and positioning technology specialist, Aptella (formerly Position Partners), introduces Fixposition, a Swiss startup renowned for its groundbreaking Vision-RTK 2

This advanced positioning solution increases accuracy through the integration of Real Time Kinematic (RTK)-corrected Global Navigation Satellite Signal (GNSS), computer vision and inertial measurement unit (IMU) technology.

The IGNSS 2024 Conference in Sydney provided an ideal platform for presenting Fixposition’s cutting-edge sensor fusion technology to the Australian market. Attended by academics, government officials, and industry leaders, IGNSS facilitated meaningful discussions on fortifying Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) systems for enhanced robustness, reliability, and security.

We are honoured to represent Fixposition and offer customers an exciting combined PNT solution at such incredible value. We expect it to be a major factor for the increased adoption of Autonomous systems,” said Martin Nix, CEO at Aptella.

Fixposition’s innovative deep sensor fusion technology helps to overcome the limitations posed by GNSS signals in challenging scenarios such as beneath tree canopies, between skyscrapers, and through tunnels. Vision-RTK 2 consistently delivers reliable high-precision positioning to various applications irrespective of environmental conditions.

GNSS signals can be weak and easily interfered with, either unintentionally by the natural environment; or by malicious intent,” explains James Millner, Positioning Infrastructure Manager from Aptella.  “Moreover, our society is extremely dependent on GNSS (PNT) systems that impact our lives daily, from securing the borders to improving safety applications in cars.” Consequently, there is a great deal of activity dedicated to producing alternative and complementary PNT systems that were demonstrated by the participants at IGNSS.

“Fixposition’s Vision-RTK 2 stands as a pinnacle in positioning technology, showcasing Fixposition’s robust xFusion positioning engine that harnesses the strengths of multiple technologies.” says Peter Mardaleichvili, Head of Product at Fixposition who presented the methodology behind the xFusion engine. “By seamlessly fusing the absolute, global precision of GNSS with the agility of Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO), our positioning solution not only mitigates the weaknesses inherent in each technology but emerges as the leading-edge solution in the market. This not only fortifies the reliability of our system but also propels us to the forefront of innovation, setting new standards for integrated and resilient positioning technology.”

Successful case studies in Australia, including the deployment of Vision-RTK 2 in vehicles and field robots across diverse environments, have showcased impressive results. The anticipated acceleration of automated tasks through robotic technologies is expected to significantly impact industries such as mining, civil construction, and transportation, improving safety and efficiency.
